Michael Jackson was born on the 29th of August 1958 in Gary, Indiana. He was the 7th child out of nine children’s in the family which was fathered by Joe Jackson and mother Katherine Esther. Michael grew up in a poor family where they had to struggle for a living. At such a young age Michael was the lead singer in the group Jackson 5 which consists of the entire Jackson brother which was formed in 1964. His dad, Joe Jackson whom was their tutor, teacher and mentor at that time always pushed them to go further in the group’s musical career.
The Jackson 5 uses to perform in many small bars, clubs and competition in their area where they came from that is Gary, Indiana. His dad was a strict vocalist teacher. As a head of the family, his father that is Joe Jackson use to mentally torture Michael Jackson when he does mistake while singing. In a way this has helped Michael to be a good singer which has developed a voice that suits many types of generation not only the young but also the older people. His father’s nature in scolding and mental torture has somehow scared his childhood days which have affected him until today. But that did not stop him from producing multimillion selling records worldwide. He started out small and went big into the music industry touching many people’s hearts with his incredible music which all aged group could gather and watch it out together. So what else can we say about the King of Pop, his magnificent, his black and white, and he can dance like no man else can, and his dance moves are all created and improvised by him. He is a living legend by himself and no one can deny that.
When I arrived at California, I was picked up by Michael’s chauffeur and his personal assistant to his home in Santa Barbara County. As soon as I stepped into his ranch, I was amazed on how huge was it and on top of that how beautiful was it. I was served with coffees and pastry while waiting for Michael Jackson to be ready. As Michael Jackson came and sat down, we had a few light conversation and drinks before I actually run through the main interview. He was so friendly and loves to joke around. I asked Michael Jackson, “How does it feel to be a real king?” And he simply replied with a big smile on his face, “I never try to think hard about it because I don’t want it to go to my head. But, it’s a great honor.” And I added that it’s great to hear that Michael Jackson actually answered it calmly with a big smile on his face despite being the legend King of Pop in the world. I went on to ask Michael Jackson about his recent birthday celebration and how he feels to be 50 years old. Michael Jackson said, “I can still do my famous dance moves and more despite my age.” He also added that he feels very wise and sage but at the same time very young in mind. To be at that age, and still look young and healthy, it’s a great thing for Michael Jackson, because looking at his physical side; he does not even look like 50 years old.
Looking at Michael Jackson’s achievements in his albums like Dangerous, Thriller, and Off The Wall, he made multi million dollars in revenue and it was the best selling albums of all time. So I had to ask Michael Jackson to pick a single song as his greatest achievement. He replied, “Oh boy, that’s a hard one.” He continued, before singling out “We Are the World,” “Billie Jean” and “Thriller.” But Jackson was not content to rest on his laurels, saying, “I am still looking forward to doing a lot of great things.” This shows Michael Jackson was not going to sit down and shake his legs even though he has made fantastic albums but still presses on to do even more intriguing albums in the future. I really envy his determination at that particular point of time when he answered that question. Michael Jackson also said that he hopes to release new music and there are no particular dates set for it. As for now, he is still writing songs and loves composing music and at the same time loving his time raising his children plus enjoying every second of it.
I then continued asking Michael Jackson, “Would you like to your two sons and daughter to have the same sort of upbringing as you?” Michael Jackson then said he prefers that his children to enjoy their childhood as much as possible since he did not have a proper childhood when he was their age. It was due to the pressure he endured at such a young age and had to balance his stardom and career together and it was not easy for him at all. Michael Jackson then added, “I let them go to the arcade and go to the movies and do things,” he said. “I want them to get to do the kind of things I didn’t get to do. So, I fill them with a lot of enjoyment that way it’s a lot of amusement.” Then at that moment, a question arise within me and I directed it to Michael asking him whether his children has love for music. He replied, “The kids love music and they too are very much into arts but then I do not push them so much into it.” Michael Jackson then added on that if he could go back in time to give some advice to himself at the age of 9 or 10 that is nearly his oldest son’s age, he would advise himself, if he is going to do it he better commit himself and know his craft plus get really involved in it. He continued that he had to have rhinoceros skin to deal with the pressure of fame. It is not easy being who he is.
The last question I asked before i concluded the interview was, “Where is all this heading too meaning your fame, stardom, and life?” Michael Jackson replied “I really believe that God chooses people to do certain things, the way Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci or Mozart or Muhammad Ali or Martin Luther King is chosen. And that is their mission to do that thing. And I think that I haven’t scratched the surface yet of what my real purpose is for being here. I’m committed to my art. I believe that all art has as its ultimate goal the union between the material and the spiritual, the human and the divine. And I believe that that is the very reason for the existence of art and what I do. And I feel fortunate in being that instrument through which music flows. Deep inside I feel that this world we live in is really a big, huge, monumental symphonic orchestra. I believe that in its primordial form all of creation is sound and that it’s not just random sound, that it’s music.” I was very pleased and happy on the way Michael concluded his last question. To be the King of Pop, he was not even arrogant, rude, or sarcastic but instead he was calm, warm and friendly. The interview went smoothly all the way and I was very excited and amused by Michael Jackson’s personality and style when he was answering my question. Of course I could not resist myself in taking a few pictures with him and also getting my t-shirt signed by the legend and one and only King of Pop who will continue to change people’s life in many ways.
