Many were left puzzled as to why the whole of Platform B (Imbi – KL Sentral)  at Imbi Monorail station was filled with people around 9.45 P.M. that night, queueing almost till the staircase. Some, even waiting for as long as half an hour for a monorail to come.

Noraini, who was out shopping with her friends at Times Square said, “It usually takes five minutes for a train to arrive. They didn’t make any announcement about any monorail delay. I don’t know how long more we’ll be here,”

A few others who waited even longer could not stand the wait and left the station in hopes of finding alternative ways to get back home.

“Even if there was a monorail now, it would be so packed. Maybe only five to ten people can get in,” said Carissa who was waiting there for 35 minutes.

The ticketing staff at the monorail was not of any help, both officers did not have a clue as to what was going on that night. Encik Sazali Said, another KL StarRail officer who was on duty that night was being questioned by many commuters. When asked why it was taking so long for the monorail to arrive, all he said was, “There’s a technical problem at one of the stations. A monorail will come shortly.”

The monorail system was the main option for many commuters who see it as the most convenient way to get to the main hub, KL Sentral.

A part-time worker working at a clothing store in Times Square said, “I have no other choice, I don’t know how else to get back to KL Sentral. I don’t have a car so I depend so much on the train.” She explained how she was worried that taxis will not take her back home because it is already late at night.

At 10.10 P.M. a monorail arrived at Imbi, managing to squeeze in less than quarter of the people waiting in line. The next one only arrived at 10.30 P.M.

The KL Monorail systems spans out 8.6 kilometres beginning KL Sentral and ends at Titiwangsa through the Golden Triangle of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. It is an intracity public transit system which links the main destinations within Kuala Lumpur.
